Pitch Pattern Sequence

The standard Pitch Pattern Sequence (PPS) test is an auditory processing disorder test using non-verbal stimuli. It is considered a temporal test using auditory pattern temporal ordering (APTO) and is sensitive to cortical lesions, interhemispheric transfer.

It consists of a series of three tones presented at either of two frequencies (pitches). The subject’s task is to describe the pitches of the tones presented. The test is a monaural test that evaluates both pattern perception and temporal sequencing ability while excluding verbal cues. Relative hemispheric involvement can often be observed by having the patient give a motor response (usually verbal) in the first trial and a humming response for the second trial.

The standard Pitch Pattern Sequence is available in two versions: 1) Adult Version for ages 9-65, and 2) Child Version for ages 6-9. Each version is sold separately. Therefore, it is necessary to specify the version or item number when ordering. The Pitch Pattern Sequence includes a) audio recording, b) instructions and score forms as printable pdf files. The two-page instructions include administration, scoring, and interpretation information. Normative data is included for the ages that correspond to the test version. Available from Auditec, Inc. Call 1-800-669-9065 (from US) or 314-416-1050 (outside the US) to order. FREE shipping to contiguous US.

Pitch (Frequency) Pattern Test

The Pitch Pattern Test – Musiek version (also known as Frequency Pattern Test) is an auditory processing disorder test for ages 8 and up using non-verbal stimuli. It is considered a temporal test using auditory pattern temporal ordering (APTO) and is sensitive to cortical lesions, interhemispheric transfer. It was recorded by Dr. Frank Musiek.  The Pitch (Frequency) Pattern – Musiek version is similar to the Pitch Pattern Sequence standard version in that groups of three tone bursts at either of two frequencies are presented monaurally.

Is the Musiek version or standard version better? Neither version is considered better. Both versions sell popularly and are widely used. Decisions are mainly based on which version the audiologist was originally trained in or by personal preference. Due to the similarities between the standard and Musiek versions, it is usually unnecessary to purchase both the Musiek and standard versions.

Dichotic Digits includes a) audio recording, and b) instructions and score form as printable pdf files. The two-page instructions include administration, scoring, and interpretation information. Normative data for ages 8 and up is included. Available from Auditec, Inc. Call 1-800-669-9065 (from US) or 314-416-1050 (outside the US) to order. FREE shipping to contiguous US.

Duration Pattern Sequence – Musiek Version

The Duration Pattern Sequence is an auditory processing disorder test. It is considered a temporal test using auditory pattern temporal ordering (APTO) and is sensitive to cortical lesions, interhemispheric transfer. The Duration Pattern Sequence – Musiek version is a test by Dr. Frank Musiek. It is similar to the Duration Pattern Sequence standard version.

Is the Musiek version or standard version better? Neither version is considered better. Both versions sell popularly and are widely used. Decisions are mainly based on which version the audiologist was originally trained in or by personal preference. Due to the similarities between the standard and Musiek versions, it is usually unnecessary to purchase both versions.

Musiek Duration Pattern Sequence includes a) audio recording, and b) instructions and score form as printable pdf files.  The two-page instructions consist of administration and interpretation information. Normative data is included for adults only. It would be reasonable to expect children over the age of eleven to test as well (or nearly as well) as adults. Available from Auditec, Inc.  Call 1-800-669-9065 (from US) or 314-416-1050 (outside the US) to order. Random Gap Detection Test – Standard & Expanded

The RGDT-Standard and Expanded version is an auditory processing disorder test for ages 5 and up using non-verbal stimuli. It is considered a temporal test using temporal resolution and is sensitive to cortical particularly left temporal lobe lesions.

The RGDT-Standard and Expanded includes the standard RGDT in its entirety along with an expanded portion at the end. The expanded portion of the test is included for individuals whose gap detection threshold exceeds 40 msec.  This test begins at time intervals longer than those measured by the standard portion of the RGDT, and includes time intervals of 10 msec. between 40 and 100 msec, and 50 msec. intervals between 100 and 300 msec.  The expanded portion of the test is administered in the same manner as the standard portion.

Individuals who require the expanded portion of the test have already demonstrated abnormal temporal processing abilities. The single purpose is to determine the time interval in which their gap detection thresholds exist. This information can be used to measure improvement in temporal processing abilities following remediation. By definition, patients with temporal processing disorders will have a wide range of gap detection thresholds. Therefore, there are no normative data associated with the expanded portion of the RGDT.

The Random Gap Detection Test-Standard and Expanded includes a) audio recording, and b) manual and score forms as printable pdf files. The 31-page manual pertains to the standard portion of the test. It is comprised of sections on development, background, administration, and interpretation. It includes normative data for ages 5 and up. An additional sheet with sections on administration and interpretation is included for the expanded portion of the test. Available from Auditec, Inc.  Call 1-800-669-9065 (from US) or 314-416-1050 (outside the US) to order.

Random Gap Detection Test (RGDT) – Standard

The Random Gap Detection Test-Standard (RGDT) is an auditory processing disorder test for ages 5 and up using non-verbal stimuli. It is considered a temporal test using temporal resolution and is sensitive to cortical particularly left temporal lobe lesions.

This test is a variation on the AFT-R.  It differs from the AFT-R:  First, in the AFT-R, the stimulus presentations are in serial order from no gap to large gap and back to no gap, often resulting in perseveration in some subjects.  Since randomization successfully eliminates the problem of perseveration, the RGDT gap duration presentations of the stimuli are randomized.  Second, the number of test frequencies has been reduced to four.  Third, Click stimuli have been added.

The Random Gap Detection Test-Standard (RGDT) includes a) audio recording, and b) manual and score forms as printable pdf files. The 31-page manual is comprised of sections on development, background, administration, and interpretation. It includes normative data for ages 5 and up. Available from Auditec, Inc.  Call 1-800-669-9065 (from US) or 314-416-1050 (outside the US) to order. FREE shipping to contiguous US locations.

Duration Pattern Sequence-Standard Version

The Duration Pattern Sequence (DPS) -Standard version is an auditory processing disorder test for ages 11 and up using non-verbal stimuli. It is considered a temporal test using auditory pattern temporal ordering (APTO) and is sensitive to cortical lesions, interhemispheric transfer.

Similar to the Pitch Pattern Sequence (PPS) test, the Duration Pattern Sequence (DPS)-Standard also explores pattern perception. However, instead of employing tones of different frequencies, the DPS test uses a single frequency tone at two dissimilar durations. Specifically, each pattern is made up of three 1000 Hz tones of one of two durations. That is, two short, one long or one long, two short, in disparate patterns. There is a total of 60 presentations plus 10 additional patterns for practice.

Duration Pattern Sequence-Standard includes a) audio recording, and b) instructions and score forms as printable pdf files. The one-page instructions consist of administration and interpretation. Normative data is included for adults only. It would be reasonable to expect children over the age of eleven to test as well (or nearly as well) as adults. Available from Auditec, Inc.  Call 1-800-669-9065 (from US) or 314-416-1050 (outside the US) to order. FREE shipping within the contiguous US.
