The PAL (acronym for Psycho-Acoustic Labratory) Lists represent one of the earliest attempts to develop a test of communication ability. Each word list contains 50 words.
Lists 1-4 were recorded and spoken by James Jerger.
Lists 9-12 are spoken by Rush Hughes (and are generally known as the Rush Hughes lists). The Rush Hughes recording is somewhat noisy and is very difficult. (Better than 80% correct is within normal limits.) The Rush Hughes recording has been employed in central auditory processing assessments in addition to a word recognition test.
PAL Lists 1-4 (Jerger talker) and PAL Lists 9-12 (Hughes talker) are sold separately; therefore, it is necessary to specify the talker and lists (Jerger Lists 1-4 or Hughes Lists 9-12) or item number when ordering.
PAL Lists include a) audio recording, and b) word list. This product does not include instructions or normative data. It is assumed that purchasers of Auditec’s auditory tests are well trained in the use, purpose, and interpretation of basic tests. Available from Auditec, Inc.
